Travel bans: UK downgrades India to amber. Here’s what it means:
Intelligent Overseas Education Travel Update: According to the United Kingdom’s traffic light system for overseas travel, returning from a country on the amber list results in a 10-day quarantine back home.
Several countries, including the United Kingdom, have upgraded their travel warnings for India from “red” to “amber.” This implies that passengers from India who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to stay in a mandatory 10-day hotel quarantine. According to the United Kingdom’s traffic light system for overseas travel, returning from a country on the amber list results in a 10-day quarantine back home. The new time zone will be in effect starting at 4 a.m. local time Sunday.
“To avoid being placed on the blocklist, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and India will be moved from the red list to the amber list. On Sunday, August 8, at 4 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, it is anticipated that all of the changes will take effect.” Chris Grayling, the Secretary of State for Transport in the United Kingdom, expressed his concerns in a Twitter message.
“Even if this is correct, the reality that we will proceed cautiously moving forward remains unchanged. Because of our successful domestic vaccination campaign, we have increased the number of destinations available to those who wish to stay in touch with their families, friends, and businesses all over the world, as well as to those who want to travel to other countries “He went on to explain.
Passengers from countries on the amber list must take a COVID test three days before departure and make arrangements in advance for two COVID tests to be done upon arrival in England. They are also required to complete a passenger locator form upon arrival in England. Passengers must take a COVID-19 test before day two and after day eight, and the passengers must quarantine at home or in the region they have identified as their domicile. Those under 18 and fully vaccinated in the UK are exempt from the home quarantine since they got two doses of the Covid vaccine in the EU and the US.
Participants in a vaccine study approved by the United Kingdom and those who have been fully vaccinated in the United Kingdom or abroad are excluded from vaccination requirements. AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine, manufactured in India for Oxford/AstraZeneca, is likely protected by this exemption. A statement was made in conjunction with the update of the travel list, which said that the cost for lone visitors from countries still on the red list who wish to stay in a quarantined hotel would increase from August 12 to GBP 2,285, effective immediately. The cost will increase from GBP 650 to GBP 1,430 if an extra adult shares a room with the guest.
According to the administration, this is done to “better represent the increasing expenditures associated with the situation.” Meanwhile, seven nations – Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Latvia, Romania, and Norway – moved from the “amber watchlist” to the “green list.” In contrast, France has been removed from the “amber watchlist.”
People returning from countries on the green list will not be subjected to quarantine, regardless of whether or not they have received vaccinations in those countries. However, they will be required to take a pre-departure test and another one-two days following their arrival. Mexico, Georgia, La Reunion, and Mayotte are among the countries that the United Kingdom will place on its “red list.” The “green watchlist,” which alerts travellers when a country’s green status is at risk of altering, remains in place and intact, with 16 nations on the list as of today.
