Vaccinated Indians

Germany welcomes vaccinated Indians starting Wednesday (July 7), Germany opens its doors to completely vaccinated travellers from India — those that have gotten Covishield jabs as Covaxin is yet to urge WHO approval — with no need for quarantine. While neighboring Switzerland took an equivalent decision late last month. Germany has gone a step ahead by accepting proof of recent convalescence from Covid also.

Travel Restrictions on Vaccination

“These changes will come out of Germany from the situation, reclassifies, India, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Portugal, and Russia are among the areas with high morbidity of Covid. The highest possible travel restrictions within the listed sites with the viral solution,” which in India is from April 26, 2021, until July 6

“Travellers in a high-percentage area may end the quarantine prematurely by submitting proof of recovery or a vaccination certificate via the travel portal. Or, after five days, by opting to ‘test themselves free’ and presenting a negative test result,” the German health ministry website says.

Germany’s Ambassador to India, Walter J. Lindner, wrote on Twitter on Friday: “want to work on the easing of travel restrictions on visitors from India, and will report back. And there it is: on July 7, Germany lifts the ban and will relax the rules for travel to five countries in which the delta option is widespread in the world, including India.”

Join German Colleges

The change is just in time for the autumn school term, with an excessive number of Indian students required to join German colleges. However, the backlog of visa applications will mean it’ll take a while before an equivalent is processed — something witnessed by Indian students headed to the US also last month. “Due to ongoing Covid effects and precaution measures. The resuming of our visa services are going to be gradual, so we invite your patience and understanding as we cannot process all applications immediately,” Ambassador Lindner tweeted Tuesday night.

Covid Jabs

To seek exemption from quarantine, travellers must have received the second Covid jab — or just one dose within the case of an individual who has recovered from coronavirus — a minimum of 14 days before the date of travel, says the website of Germany’s federal interior ministry. A positive PCR test result administered a minimum of 28 days but not quite six months previously will prove recovery.

A Covid negative is required to be allowed to board a flight to Germany, taking within 72 hours (RT-PCR) before the scheduled time of arrival in Germany.

Children below six years are exempt from the testing requirement. “Violation of registration and quarantine requirements can cause a fine of up to Euro 25,000,” the website says.
