Students from Tier-I cities no longer have to limit their study abroad ambitions to just that. Students in Tier-II cities now have more options than ever before, thanks to the thriving edtech industry.

Demand for international education from Indian students is soaring in major study abroad markets like the United States and Canada. More than 160,000 Indian students will be able to study in Canada during the first half of 2021, thanks to a new policy.

When compared to 2020, that’s a four-fold increase. It’s only a matter of time before those numbers rise even further. Tier-I cities aren’t the only ones affected by this crisis. As India’s Tier-II cities become some of the fastest-growing in the world, they’ve taken exciting steps forward in their educational infrastructure.

Tier-II cities on the growth

Improved internet access in cities in India’s Tier II region, such as Jaipur and Nagpur, makes these cities attractive to students interested in studying abroad. In India’s Tier-II cities, many young people have the opportunity to study abroad and contribute to the country’s economic growth and labor market after they return from abroad.

Preparation centers for university and certification exams have traditionally been the go-to destination for test-takers needing study materials and practice exams. Test prep centers in Tier-II cities were scarce in the past, and many of those that did exist provided inconsistent instruction.

Due to new challenges and breakthroughs, the year 2020 will see a significant shift toward digitally-based solutions. Students from all over India can now take advantage of the country’s top test prep centers moving online.

Future of international education

Before applying to college, students who plan to stay in their host country after graduation need to be aware of new job opportunities that may arise. For example, in June 2021, there were nearly 110,000 vacancies in the Canadian healthcare and social assistance industry. Canadians are expected to face a labor shortage of over 100,000 skilled tradespeople by 2030. It’s not just the United States that relies on international students to supply its workforce.

A strong education system is being built in Tier-II cities to help India achieve many of its education policy goals. One of the policy’s stated objectives is to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio in higher education from 26.3 percent to 50 percent by 2035.

Educational technology companies can leverage their existing educational partnerships to facilitate connections between Indian and international educational institutions to achieve this goal.
