Germany Tops Europe as Key Destination for International Students

 In News

Germany is a top destination for international students and researchers, with the country ranking second globally after the United States in terms of attracting foreign academics. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) reports that over 75,000 international researchers are currently working in Germany, and 380,000 international students are enrolled at German universities.

Most international researchers, about 80%, work at universities, including approximately 4,000 professors, while 20% are employed at non-university research institutions. The largest groups of international researchers come from India, China, and Italy.

For those planning to study in Germany, the country has updated the required proof of income. As of September 2024, students must demonstrate financial resources of at least 992 euros per month (11,904 euros per year), an increase from the previous requirement of 934 euros per month. In addition to this amount, students are responsible for covering living expenses, housing, and books.

While studying in Germany, international students are allowed to work up to 140 full days or 280 half-days per year without needing approval from the Federal Employment Agency. During semester breaks, there are no restrictions on how many hours students can work.
