Tata Group, Oxford University announce new building honouring late Ratan Tata

The Tata Group and Somerville College, University of Oxford, have announced plans for the Ratan Tata Building, set to begin construction in Spring 2025. This initiative aims to enhance Somerville’s educational facilities, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and support impactful research. The building will feature seminar rooms, offices, shared study spaces, and accommodation for visiting academics.

A significant aspect of this project is the establishment of a permanent home for the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development (OICSD), strategically located on the last available plot in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, emphasized that this partnership reflects Ratan Tata’s values, merging research with development to address critical needs for India.
